Balmacaan in wool herringbone
Céline • Fall-Winter 2018

One of the more straightforward pieces of outerwear to come out of Céline’s FW 2018 collection is this large overcoat, cut to an oversized, almost mannish fit.
The front, made in deep brown llama-wool herringbone, is framed by a notched collar above a row of horn buttons, with roomy broad-welt pockets on either side.
A dense boiled wool fabric in an even deeper shade of brown is used on the dropped shoulders, outer sleeves, and the entire back, cut to a slight cocoon shape.
The two-tone nature of this garment likely owes itself to an approach informed by thoughtful reconstruction; appearing to be derived from two different coats of differing fabrics (one larger and the other smaller) to fashion this two-toned piece.
