Jumpsuit in viscose-silk satin
Céline • Spring-Summer 2016
-
Shown in the final runway look of Céline's SS 2016 show, this jumpsuit exhibits the collection’s heavy emphasis on functional details to create utility. This piece bears similarities to flight suits used by US Army Air Forces throughout the 20th century; most comparable to the L-1 from the 1940s, and the K-2B from the 1960s.
In contrast to its original counterparts meant for flight, this jumpsuit’s features are distilled into those more relevant for everyday use: silver metal zippers placed on the front, cuffs, and legs to aid in wearing the suit, with buttons on the waistband to adjust the silhouette.
Rather than gabardine or ripstop, a sleek lightweight viscose-silk satin in an olive green color much similar to the original is used, weighed down by the heavy-duty zippers for a flattering look.
