Car coat in houndstooth jacquard
Céline • Resort 2016
-
Cut in mid-weight stretch-cotton jacquard, this car coat showcases a red and white houndstooth pattern. A single button just below the pointed collar fastens the front, with lightweight black silk lining the interior for easy layering.
The unconventional color combination is reminiscent of the work of Bonnie Cashin, an American sportswear designer referenced by Céline on multiple occasions. Cashin’s outerwear designs for Sills and Co. in the 1960s saw the prominent use of multicolored houndstooth fabrics, which ranged from monochromes to bright neons.
The red-white houndstooth pattern seen here was also favored by Princess Diana, as seen on her Moschino Cheap and Chic blazer which she wore on multiple occasions.
This style was worn by Céline's creative director Phoebe Philo for the 2015 Edition of the LVMH Prize.
