Coat in wool-silk and silicone
Prada • Fall-Winter 1998
-
For the FW 1998 season, minimalist silhouettes are given a futuristic slant at Prada through the use of industrial synthetics like plastic, silicone, and photographic film, adding visual and textural interest. The space-age cuts and trims call to mind the work of André Courreges, who used similar materials in his designs.
On this off-white peacoat made in wrinkled wool-silk, silicone strips are placed on the placket and hemline to protect these high-contact areas from wear and tear. A closer look at the pre-wrinkled fabric reveals a fine layer of silk bonded to a wool base for structure and insulation.
The rest of the design is kept minimal: a notched collar above a darted bust, inseam side pockets, and a single vent. The interior is fully lined with a light, tonal crepe fabric.

Faint wear consistent with age: faint pilling and snags, mark on cuff.
