Light silk satin coat w origami florals

Prada's effort to merge contrasting archetypes of femininity for their Spring/Summer 2013 collection resulted in a series of starkly minimal silhouettes contrasted by rich floral motifs in the vein of traditional Japanese garb, rendered in a manner that veers away from tired tropes of historical costume in favor of modern dressing.
In a concise palette of red, black, and white, the florals were executed in an equally concise array of techniques: intarsia, print, and appliqué embroidery—the latter best shown on this collarless coat worn by Guinevere Van Seenus on the runway.
In line with Prada’s approach for this collection, the coat’s highly matter-of-fact, boxy cut is contradicted by ultrafeminine choices of fabric and embroidery.
The coat is crafted in a lightweight, pale pink silk satin, dotted on the front and nape with large folded flower appliqués reminiscent of origami. Stitched with contrasting cotton yarn and enclosed in tonal patches, the flowers on this coat are evocative of Japanese renditions of chrysanthemums (kiku-no-hana).
