Prada's effort to merge contrasting archetypes of femininity for their Spring/Summer 2013 collection resulted in a series of starkly minimal silhouettes contrasted by rich floral motifs in the vein of traditional Japanese garb, rendered in a manner that veers away from tired tropes of historical costume in favor of modern dressing.

In a concise palette of red, black, and white, the florals were executed in an equally concise array of techniques: intarsia, appliqué, and print—the latter shown on this collarless jacket seen on Look 4 on the runway.

In line with Prada’s approach for this collection, the jacket’s straightforward, boxy shape and monochrome color are contradicted by feminine choices of proportion and prints.

The jacket is crafted in black wool-cotton sateen to a cropped length with three-quarter sleeves. A monochrome print of what appears to be a plum blossom is patched on the right chest.
