For Resort 2017, Céline showed a series of suits and coats cut to waist-hugging, bold-shouldered silhouettes – masculine and yet, feminine in equal measure. The raw-cut seams on the back of these jackets seem to imply a reworking of pieces of men’s tailoring.

A more understated approach of reworking is taken for the matching trousers: Darts on the pleated waistband suggest an initially larger pair of trousers, wrapped with a long belt so as to sit neatly under the cinched waist jacket. The presence of delicate pick stitching (a kind of finishing emblematic of bespoke men’s suiting) also points towards the same idea.

The end result shows a more refined, well-tailored version of relaxed paper bag-waist trousers.
