Cocoon top in sparkling quilted tweed
Céline • Fall-Winter 2016
-
Céline embraced a languid softness for the FW 2016 season, shown through a series of cozy, unstructured outerwear pieces in chunky wool, mohair, and alpaca fabrics. Among them is this tweed pullover top made into a rounded, cocoon shape. This unconventional form is a rather novel choice for this textile, as opposed to tailored jackets more commonly seen in fashion, resulting in a piece of women's outerwear that is equally purposeful yet less restrictive.
The tweed fabric is interspersed with reflective black acrylic thread, with flourishes of lurex added to the back, creating a shimmering effect when worn. Rounded shoulders with elasticized armholes further emphasize the cocoon shape. The quilted silk lining combined with the top's loose, oversized fit allows it to be easily layered over other pieces, even with the arms tucked underneath as shown on the Céline runway.
