Deconstructed trench in cotton gabardine

Much of Demna Gvasalia’s inaugural collection for Balenciaga was an attempt at translating Cristobál Balenciaga’s couture methodology into a contemporary context.
For this cotton gabardine trench, that translation was conducted through the lens of deconstruction: a car coat is wrapped on the waist with the bottom half of a belted trench; its double-breasted closure overlapping on the front. These panels fall to an asymmetrical hem relative to the shorter car coat, and fasten on the back by a single button.
Unbuttoning this back button enables access to the car coat's side pockets, and allows the panels to drape and fan out sideways in a pannier-like manner to create interesting volumes.
