Knotted dress in washed cashmere
Céline • Fall-Winter 2013
-
The pastel and monochrome woolens and cashmere pieces that dominated Céline’s FW 2013 runway culminated into a trio of garments that featured a distinct tied-sleeve design on the front, including this dress in pale yellow cashmere.
As first noted by Jeremy Lewis of Garmento, the tied-sleeve detail likely has its origins in a wool jersey coat by American designer Geoffrey Beene, famously photographed on a dress form with its sleeves knotted.
Céline implements the same detail on this sleeveless dress to serve a purely conceptual purpose rather than a practical one: the tied sleeves, which are built into the dress, make it appear as though it is wrapped by a second garment. Made entirely in washed double-faced cashmere, the dress features open slots on either side, through which one can tuck their hands under for warmth. An invisible zip on one shoulder seam neatly closes towards the collar.
