Patchwork dress in bicolor leather
Céline • Pre-Fall 2018

Constructed in a striking burgundy and white leather patchwork, this short-sleeve dress from Céline shows intriguing asymmetries informed heavily by an approach of reconstruction.
Its irregularly shaped panels, particularly evident on the skirt, consist of a deliberate patchwork of parts that seem to originate from reconstructing two differently-colored leather garments into one dress.
Welt pockets with vertical darts from vestiges of a jacket become parts of the skirt and the sleeve. Oddly placed metal zippers on the hemline now serve to provide added swing to the skirt. A grommeted belt is repurposed and paired with straps on the waistband to add shape to the dress when tied.
Céline first introduced this design in their FW 2017 collection in black leather and navy textile versions. The choice of a bi-color leather construction results in the piece appearing as a new design altogether.
