Split-pleat skirt in wool-silk and silicone
Prada • Fall-Winter 1998
-
For the FW 1998 season, minimalist silhouettes are given a futuristic slant at Prada through the use of industrial synthetics like plastic, silicone, and photographic film, adding visual and textural interest. The space-age cuts and trims call to mind the work of André Courreges, who used similar materials in his designs.
On this particular skirt cut in a wrinkled wool-silk, pleats are split into panels to allow for greater freedom of movement while revealing hints of skin. Strips of glossy black silicone are placed on each panel to provide added weight and swing to the skirt. A closer look at the pre-wrinkled fabric reveals a fine layer of silk bonded to a wool base for structure and insulation. The interior is fully lined with a lightweight, tonal crepe fabric.
